Novotel golf course set to go?

LOCAL GOLFERS can forget about marching down the esplanade in protest about the possible loss of their golf course. Cr Sno Bonneau said new owners Indigo Projects (part of Indigo Pacific) had the legal right to scrap it if they wished. Last month, the Brisbane developer bought the 36 ha Novotel Resort and golf course for an estimated $40 million. Indigo's Project Manager Dennis Nichol said one likely plan for the property included keeping the resort but scrapping the 10-hole course to build a residential project. "But we are keeping our options open," he said. A residential development would house an additional 500 people.
Allan Prince of estate agents Godwin Witten said existing owners of apartments at the resort should not be concerned. "In my opinion, any proposed development regarding the golf course would not be detrimental to the value of the existing strata title properties," he said.
Last December, Indigo bought the Clarion Resort which, except for its popular beachfront restaurant Blue, is now closed for refurbishment.

Accolades for our spas

LADIES & GENTLEMEN, if you decide to have a spa treatment at Sebel Reef House or Angsana, rest assured you are getting the very best.
At the grand Mandarin Oriental ball room in London on January 24th, Sebel and Angsana were voted 1 and 2 best spa in the South Pacific and Sebel was also voted No 11 in the world.
Announcer Sarah, editor of Conde'Nast Traveller, said two spas voted 1 and 2 in an area as intimate as Palm Cove was unprecedented.
"It's unheard of, an accolade for which both spas can be justly proud, just brilliant, just brilliant," she said.

In another press release from Tourism Palm Cove, we learnt of a new star rating: New star rating for Outrigger
AAATourism has announced a new style rating for accommodation with Outrigger Beach Club and Spa Palm Cove the first to be awarded in Australia.
There has always been the well-known Star Rating Classification. There is now an additional one : The Resort Star Rating classification. To be assessed under the resort scheme, a property must have at least two of the following : golf course, tennis court, resort-style pool, fitness centre. Outrigger has scored five stars.
Owned by seven motoring organisations in Australia, AAA Tourism rates 10,500 properties from back-packer hostels to luxury hotels for a maximum of five stars.
"The launching of the new rating in Palm Cove is an indication of how Far North Queensland is leading the way," Outrigger General Manager Murray Worthington said. More of the new ratings are to be expected in the Cairns area.

Bark worse than bite

DOGS should be taught not to bark at every person who walks past the gate, a Terebra St resident says.
Brian Lines of Cocky's at the Cove said any dog could learn this social attribute if taught at an early age.
"There are enough nuisance barkers in Palm Cove," Brian said, "especially at night."
Veterinary nurse Lee Irvine said it was not the dog's fault if it barked but the owner's. She said the best age for a puppy to learn was eight to sixteen weeks.
"This is called the imprinting period when everything the puppy sees, hears, learns, experiences, fears or likes is imprinted in its brain from this age onwards into adulthood,"she said.
Lee said four-week puppy school courses were now conducted at Greencross Veterinarians, Brinsmead, costing $40. Puppies are also taught toilet training, nutrition, socially acceptable behaviour, and the five basic commands `sit,' `stay,' `come,' `drop,' and `heel.' Owners and children are encouraged to attend. Editor : Brian is right. I've been delivering this newsletter every month for five years now and dogs can still make me jump. They lie in wait and give me a powerful blast through the fence. Maybe I should ask it what puppy school it went to.

All about weather

After months of testing, Gerhard Beulke has added a weather station to his web page www.palmcove.net/weather/
The data gives us current wind speed &direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall, sunrise, sunset, moon, tides, and much more - all exclusively dealing with Palm Cove. Believe it or not, the info is updated every five minutes!
"Over time, I will add a few more features," Gerhard said.

Check out this web page, folks. This boy's a computer wizz. By the way, www.palmcove.net receives 5,000 hits a day. - Editor.

Amphora Resort opens

AMPHORA RESORT is now open although the beachfront restaurant won't open until early next year.
Spokesman Jim Spencer said the head restaurateur will be Ivo Perotta from Perottas at the Gallery restaurant, city.
Ivo was featured in this newsletter last year on his marriage to Kylie Oldfield at Double Island when the bride arrived by helicopter.

Editor : We hope the architect's wish for a clock in the clock tower of the restaurant is granted. Palm Cove has a lot of class: a clock in such an Old Queensland style building can only give it more.
