Bad Luck Blues was good luck for Greg

CLASSY AZURE WATERS

COVE'S newest development, Azure Waters, has a touch of class. Century-old melaleuca trees, magnificent view, and shops. You should see the shops.

Mike Kenny's art gallery has a range of Ian Stephens paintings, the ones with bright colours that really hit your eye. Ian, Mike's brother-in-law, has a studio in Veivers Road, and he specializes in the open-windows paintings.

Presents At Palm Cove, the gift shop, has a wealth of good stuff, and theysay the locals, not just the tourists, are buying.

Carol Farley's new clothing store has plenty to offer for the discerning buyer; and you can call on the office of Amanda Byrne, who runs Azure Waters, for accommodation (four and a half star, would you believe), tours, and hire cars. Amanda is wife of Mayor Kevin.

Before you leave, what better than a coffee at Nike Wardle's Coffee Haven where, by the way, the take-away fish and chips are not bad. Nike (pro. nik-ay) and husband Rolf's Clippers Restaurant is on the market.

WE HAVE a film producer in our midst. Greg Singh, owner of Jama Dreaming gallery and shop at Palm Cove Shopping Centre, won the Queensland New Filmmaker's Award last month at the Brisbane Film Festival for his 7-minute film Bad Luck Blues.

A film with a strong reconciliation theme, it tells of a man whose car breaks down on an isolated road in Cape York Peninsula, where the car is fixed by a group

of Aboriginal men.

Greg has made films for the BBC which have been shown on British television.

Bad Luck Blues will be shown at the Indigenous Film Festival in Brisbane in July.

Greg and wife Janice with relatives and others from a dance group leave for Europe on May 8 for a 3-month tour displaying Aboriginal art, dance, and the film.

A free film show with dance performance will be held in Palm Cove on August 16. We will advise venue in August edition.

Simon says : this

publicity is okay!

OWNER/CHEF of Colonies Restaurant Simon Ford wondered where all the locals had come from; his restaurant was fuller than usual for a Sunday night.

"It must have been that photo of me in Cairns Post," he said.

Simon had received a letter from British

television cooking star Jamie Oliver of The Naked Chef.

Simon was using a recipe from The Naked Chef, a Thai Chicken Curry dish, and the celebrity had heard about it from a couple of Brits. He sent Simon an encouraging letter.

Simon said : "I don't mind this sort of publicity at all!"

Building blocks an

extinct species

NOVOTEL now has 30 gym classes each week catering for all age groups. Beginners are welcome.

A class for the middle age group is at

10.30 Tuesdays, $4 per person with coffee and cake to follow. There is an aqua class in the pool 9.30am Thursday.

Queries Meg Quinn 4039 9460.

ALLAN PRINCE of Inner Circle Real estate, Smithfield says residential building blocks in Palm Cove are becoming an extinct species.

"There is only one residential block presently on the market between the highway and the beach," he said. "There is one other but it's only for sale as a double block."

He expects a bridge may be built soon joining Triton St and the land across the creek.

"There is a new footbridge about 300m along the beach from Angsana which takes you over the creek to undeveloped land," he said.

(We had a look, it's hard to find. Count 350 paces from Angsana and it's back to nature.)

BBQs at shorefront

COUNCIL has finished installing three more BBQ nodes along the beachfront. Each node is 5m x 10m with paved area, table and seats, roof, double BBQ, and a tap. The time has come to picnic.

Munbilla top shots!

IF YOU drive into Novotel up to the roundabout, you'll see the new Munbilla Pavilions on the cliff face at Buchans Point.

Of the ten luxury airconditioned pent

houses, six have been sold, says Denise Beattie of Quaid's Real Estate.

They should be completed by the end of the month.

The price? $465,000 to $635,000.

Our 2nd anniversary.
